DIY Moana Inspired Costume

Raine's 6th birthday is upcoming. The party theme is Moana so having a DIY Moana Inspired Costume is a great addition!

I bought an old tshirt from ukay-ukay for 50 pesos. Cut the upper part of the shirt from the shoulders to the armholes.
Try it on your kid to check the fit and have the desired length and width of a tube top.
The length of the tube top is - 3 inches for the fold at the upper part of the tube top and the hem should be few inches from the navel for a chic Moana look. Cut the extra fabric and set it aside for later use.
Once you have the final size of your tube top, sew the side seams. Fold the upper part of the tube and insert a garter. Just leave the fold hanging for a semi ruffle style.
At the hem of the tube top, cut zigzag lines.
Get a paper and make a pattern like this. Trace it on the tube top with a permanent marking pen.
Follow the markings as shown in the picture below. Or search for Moana in Google and look closely at her costume if you want an exact copy of the markings.
Get a strip of white cloth and stretch from both ends until the edges curl inwards.
Sew the white cloth onto the hanging hem of the fold.
Now the tube top is done, let's proceed and make a belt for Moana costume using the red extra fabric that we set aside a while ago. Draw some lines matching the previous lines we made on the tube top.
If you have a brown grass skirt, it's great. Unfortunately, I don't have one and I won't spend my 450 pesos to buy it online so I found another way. Raine has a white dress with layered skirt.
I tucked the upper part of the dress inside, making it look like a skirt.
I added a beaded necklace to complete the look. For just 50 pesos, Raine has a Moana inspired costume for her 6th birthday party!
